UCPA
Hello UCPerformingArts people!
Thanks to everyone for coming along to our Inaugural General Meeting!
We talked about some of the super-exciting things we can do like Performing Arts weeks, balls, demos, workshops, collaborative events, flashmobs, and getting better representation to the UCSA and University. We talked about Cloud Nine as a venue, and how we can lobby to have that become a fantastic space for performing arts groups.
Then we talked about the roles and structure of the group. The helpful little handout can be found HERE.
The UCPA is not a power structure – it’s a co-operation structure. That means it can’t force any club to do anything, it just facilitates better collaboration, sharing of knowledge and resources, and representation to outside bodies.
We still need some people to do some administrative tasks (see the role descriptions in the handout above).
We voted and were overwhelmingly in favour of simple representation as the structure of the group – that is, one representative from each club, with the administrative tasks being divvied up amongst the Council of Representatives.
We then whizzed through the proposed constitution. Because we went through things so fast, we decided to only adopt it provisionally, giving people 7 days to read the document and express any concerns they may have with it. We decided that concerns should be given as amendments, so as to provide positive criticism. We also decided to allow any individual member of any PerformingArts club make a personal submission, so that all concerns can be heard.
Those submissions were made, and the clubs involved in UCPA met and discussed the constitution, taking many of the proposed amendments, and settled on a final constitution for the UCPA. Here is that constitution.
The UCPA Council will be having its first meeting early next term, and we should expect to see exciting developments happening FAST
