• Mary Lane – all-American teenage girl who is corrupted by the evils of marijuana, in love with Jimmy – female principal, stage-age late teens, some dancing, mezzo-soprano (G3 – G5)
• Jack Stone - 1930s gangster type, drug-pusher – male principal, stage-age late 20s to mid-30s, dancing required, baritone (F2 – A4)
• Mae - maternal figure, cohabits with Jack, addicted to marijuana – female principal, stage-age late 20s to mid-30s, alto (F3 – F5)
• Ralph – university drop-out reefer fiend – male principal, stage-age early 20s to mid-30s, tenor (B2 – A4)
• Sally - client of Jack’s, sex goddess – female principal, stage-age 20s, some dancing, mezzo-soprano (G3 – B5)
